Lisa Andersen

Lisa Andersen will discuss her upcoming book, "Sex Education: Historical and Philosophical Perspectives." Andersen specializes in 19th- and early 20th-century U.S. history, with an emphasis on connections between ethics, politics, and democracy. Her first book, The Politics of Prohibition: American Governance and the Prohibition Party, 1869-1933, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2013. Research related to this project has been published in Journal of Women’s History and Journal of Policy History. An upcoming co-authored project will explore the history and philosophy of sex education in the U.S.
Andersen has been on the Juilliard faculty since 2007 and her courses here include U.S. History to 1877; U.S. History since 1877; History of American Women and Gender; Civil War, Reconstruction, and Slave Emancipation. She has a BA in history and American literature from U.C.L.A. (1998) and am MA (1999) and PhD (2007) in history from the University of Chicago.
